The Cranford Eagle The Linden Summer Playhouse is currently accepting applications for its 2000 Annual Performing Arts Scholarship. Applicants must pass various prerequisite criteria. Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 22 yers old, be a resident of Union County or a past Linden Summer Playhouse member not living in Union County, and be continuing an interest in theater education, i.e. acting classes, college classes, dance school, etc. Interested applicants should send information to Linden Summer Playhouse Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 304, Linden, NJ 07036. Applications are due no later than April 1. Information required from applicant is name; address; phone number; school; grade; date of birth; activity for which they would like the scholarship, e.g. dance lessons, voice lessons, etc.; the dates during which this activity will take place; the cost of this activity; and a contact person and phone number at this activity. Also included must be an academic record or copy of student transcript; an essay in 500 words or less, describing What performing arts means to me and why I want to pursue the arts, prior performing arts experience, including all performances and dates; a list of training received, including performing arts schools and classes, how long attended, and teachers' names; and a current written recommendation from at least one performing arts teacher. The Linden Summer Playhouse, a non-profit organization, has provided theater education to children and young adults in Union County since 1979.

The Cranford Eagle The Linden Summer Playhouse has announced the winners of its second annual scholarship award. The winners were chosen by various prerequisite criteria such as (a) must be between the ages of 8 and 22, (b) a resident of Union County or past LSP member not living in Union County, and (c) continuing their interest in theater education, i.e. acting classes, college classes, dance school, etc. They also were chosen from their academic record, what performing arts means to them and why they want to continue to perform. The winners were Carly Bellero of Linden, Jessica Flynn of Westfield, Allison Siko of Westfield, Katie and Jill Hayeck of Cranford, Justin Bellero of Linden, Samantah Hahn of Metuchen, Peter Collier of Cranford, David Brailey of Rahway, Morgan Parker of Rahway, Megan Rodd of Westfield, Corrine Liebrich of Westfield, Christina Weakland of Cranford, Matt Price of Fanwood and Jennifer Womac of Roselle. The Linden Summer Playhouse, a nonprofit organization, has taught theater education to children and young adults in Union County since 1979. The Playhouse closed its doors in fall 1997 but continues its mission by providing scholarship opportunities to young adults each summer until their funds run out. Keep your eye open each year around March for notices in the newspapers about that year's upcoming scholarship app;ications.
